Book Beginnings is hosted at A Few More Pages, and The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda’s Voice.
Today’s book is Queen by Right by Anne Easter Smith.
Summary:
History remembers Cecily of York standing on the steps of the Market Cross at Ludlow, facing an attacking army while holding the hands of her two young sons. Queen by Right reveals how she came to step into her destiny, beginning with her marriage to Richard, duke of York, whom she meets when she is nine and he is thirteen. Raised together in her father’s household, they become a true love match and together face personal tragedies, pivotal events of history, and deadly political intrigue. All of England knows that Richard has a clear claim to the throne, and when King Henry VI becomes unfit to rule, Cecily must put aside her hopes and fears and help her husband decide what is right for their family and their country.
I’ve been working on this book for what feels like forever now! It’s long. But quite good. I’m hoping to finish it very soon – I’m currently working on some editing, which is why I’ve been slow to read and review anything lately.

The link-up will be at A Few More Pages every Friday.
A scream pierced Cecily’s dreamless sleep. She came awake in an instant as every mother might upon hearing her child in distress.
Yep, good one. Definitely draws the reader in.

I’ve decided to have a little more fun with this one. Instead of the usual Friday 56, it’ll be the Friday -56. Meaning: 56, 156, 256, … It’s a 500-page book, so why not let you see more?
56:
Cecily knew she would find Richard either in the great hall or seeing to his horse.
156:
Knowing Richard’s anger was usually short-lived, she cocked her head, giving him a mischievous smile.
256:
“Soft, my loard,” she said sternly, frowning a reminder that they were not alone.
356:
While his brilliant blue eyes were his father’s, they did not glow with the same warmth; instead, a steely cynicism made them glitter rather than sparkle.
456:
Her heart constricted and she felt sick as she contemplated why Warwick was come in person.
