Month in Review: April

April review
And April is over. Yikes. It was a crazy month for me off-blog, what with three soccer teams to keep track of. End the month with a fender-bender, and, well, that makes for one helluva month! It was all I could do to keep things here up to date and active. As such, my Challenges page is in desperate need of updating, as is my Review Index. I’m hoping to get to those soon. Because Challenges is neglected as of now, I’m not going to list my progress in those at this point – I’m not entirely sure where I’m at! LOL Anywho, let’s look back and see how it was.

Month in Review: March

March
March feels like it’s picked up a bit, so far as my reading pace has gone. I’m not sure, though – but Goodreads does say I’m ahead of myself, so that’s gotta count for something. Anywho, I still have not been blogging much outside reviews and Third Sentence Thursday (please join me) – and reading blogs doesn’t happen much at the moment. I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever return to my “normal” bloggy habits.

As a quick reminder, Google Friend Connect is gone from Proud Book Nerd. Please remember to choose a different following means. I recommend e-mail updates, RSS feed, Facebook, and/or Twitter. I’ve also added Proud Book Nerd to Linky Followers. The box for that is in the footer on the left.

Month in Review: February

February 2012

Welcome to March! I feel like I just wrote my January post! (Maybe that’s just because I did that so late in the month? LOL I feel like I’ve been somewhat absent as of late. I blame a few things. My brand-new iPad. Got it for my birthday in December, and it is HARD to put down! LOL Also, burnout. I’ve over-committed myself one to many times, it seems. I’m trying my best to make good on my agreements. They aren’t all gonna make it – at least not exactly when they were originally agreed to be posted. But, every book I’ve ever accepted for the purpose of a review WILL BE REVIEWS. It just might be awhile. In my absence, I have barely read any other blogs. I apologize for that. I’m afraid it’ll get worse before it gets better, as soccer season is soon to begin. Hopefully I’ll find some time to get caught up a bit before then. I apologize for my absence.

Once again, Google Friend Connect is about to become a thing of the past. I believe March was the month slated for the end, but I could be wrong about that. Please remember to choose a different following means. I recommend e-mail updates, RSS feed, Facebook, and/or Twitter. I’ve also added Proud Book Nerd to Linky Followers. The box for that is in the footer on the left. (And it’s MIA at the moment, so I’m not sure how dependable it’ll be.)

Now that I have that out of the way, February was short and busy. I don’t think it was as good, reading-wise, as January, but I still feel like I’m off to a great bookish start this year! (Note: I’m changing the header of the first section to books read/reviewed in February. Sometimes books I post reviews on for blog tours were read weeks – or even months – in advance. So, the post has been scheduled for a while, and wasn’t actually read in the month it appears.)

Books Read/Reviewed in February

  1. Frantic by Mike Dellosso ~ 4 stars
  2. Lovesick by Spencer Seidel ~ 4.5 stars

Month in Review: December

DecemberDecember. Wow. Over. Wow. Good-bye to 2011. Hello to 2012. Yikes! As we begin a new month – and year – I am again looking back over the previous month to reflect on what all transpired here, and traffic stats (because my nerdiness is not limited to books). I am surprised by how slow of a reading month it was for me. Fewer than 10 books. But, that’s OK. We have birthdays, the holidays, etc. Those are my primary focus. Anyway, if you’re new or haven’t been around much this month, check out the first few categories to see what you might have missed!

Before I get to that, though, there are a few things I wanted to discuss.

As many of you already know, Google Friend Connect will be discontinued for blogs off the Blogger platform. What does that mean? In short, it will no longer be available here on Proud Book Nerd. The date of discontinuation, if I remember correctly, isn’t until March, but I’m not waiting until then to move on. Sometime over the next few days I will remove it from Proud Book Nerd. I have a few other alternatives for continuing to remain updated on new posts, reviews, giveaways, etc. here.

  • By e-mail: This is probably the easiest, most reliable way to keep up to date here. You will receive an e-mail once per day – only if there were new posts since your last e-mail. My e-mail subscribers haven’t received any new e-mails for a bit because I’ve been out of town and unable to post. To sign up for these updates, simply enter your e-mail address in the subscription box in the right-hand sidebar and hit “submit.” Make sure to go into your e-mail to confirm the subscription!
  • Via Goodreads: I am constantly on Goodreads. Usually just to track my reading, but my reviews are usually partially posted there with a link to the full review here. Send me a friend request if you want to go this route.
  • Via RSS feed: I use Google’s Feedburner for following feeds, but you can use whatever program, extension, or whatever works for you. Simply click HERE.
  • Via Twitter: I am set up to automatically post notification whenever there’s a new post. It posts the headline, a short snippet, and a link. Outside of this, I’m not usually very active on twitter, but if you want to know about new posts, this will work. I’m ProudBookNerd.
  • Via Facebook: My posts are also automatically posted on Proud Book Nerd’s facebook page. If you “Like” the page, you’ll get notification in your facebook feed whenever I make new posts. My page is HERE.
  • Via Networked Blogs: My feed automatically is pulled, so you won’t fall behind this way either. I’m HERE.
  • Google+: I’ve recently created a page. I will be honest and say I’m hardly on there. I’m hoping Google eventually allows pages to auto-post their feed (like on facebook). Until that happens, you’re at my mercy – I rarely remember to post links to new posts over there! LOL But, still, if you add me to your circles and Google ever does allow it, then you will be all set! I’m HERE.

The other thing is that during my slow month of December, I’ve realized how much I have been avoiding/ignoring/procrastinating because of all of this reading. I’m going to attempt to cut back. And, that might mean that reviews that have been scheduled just don’t happen on time. I promise to review every book I’ve received for review purposes, but it might be awhile before I get to it. If I miss you, PLEASE don’t freak out on me. I have every intention of getting to you. I just cannot sacrifice my offline life – especially that with my children – for this blog.

And with that stated, let’s get to the monthly review!

  1. Artemis the Loyal by Joan Holub & Suzanne Williams ~ 5 stars

Month in Review: November

NovemberI’m trying something new this month. I’m beginning this ahead of time. Sure, I’ve considered doing this many times before. The difference, because you asked, is that I just read a book I don’t feel like writing a review for. It was a good book. But it wasn’t one I’d agreed to review. It was one I obtained from my library, and I decided that it’s OK to choose not to review books read simply for enjoyment. Anyway, I’m sharing this because I might, in my haste to finish it at the end of the month, post this before actually finishing it – meaning before filling in the blanks I leave when working ahead. If that happens, forgive my SUPER embarrassing  mistake!

I am continually amazed by the top viewed pages. There are certain reviews – Clockwork Angel, Sing You Home, The Demon King, The Lying Game – that are consistently on the list. It amazes me. Not because of the books themselves, but because of the consistency with which they’re viewed. I don’t think Clockwork Angel has ever been off the list! Now, no, I haven’t been doing this for more than a few months, but still. That post was written in August of 2010. I know it reflects the book’s popularity more than anything, but it still wows me. LOL

As always, thank you for your support and continued readership. Please note that at the end of the year, Google Friend Connect will be removed from this blog. Google has decided to discontinue it for non-Blogger blogs. Look for a detailed post on other ways to follow soon.

Again, thank you! This blog wouldn’t be nearly so much fun without you!
