Third Sentence Thursday: Dreamless

Third Sentence Thursday
Welcome to this week’s edition of Third Sentence Thursday! :-) As a heads-up, starting next week TST will be on hiatus (unless I can get a guest host) until after my Authors from A to Z event in June.

Rules:

  1. Take the book you are currently reading and open it to a random page. Share the third full sentence on that page. (If there isn’t a third one – like at the end of a chapter or a blank page – you can share the third sentence of the book or just choose another random page.) Feel free to share more than one sentence, if you feel the need to do so.
  2. Share your thoughts, if any, on the sentence.
  3. Post a link to your blog post in the link list below. Don’t forget to link back here, too! (There is a button in the sidebar to the right.) If you don’t have a blog, just leave it in the comments here.
  4. Be social! Visit one or two of the other blogs to check out their third sentence(s).

DreamlessHere’s Mine:

And, besides, what could Orion do to stop her from dying, anyway? ~page 262 in Dreamless (ARC) by Josephine Angelini

I’m thinking someone might be thinking she’s dying. I’m guessing that someone is Helen. I’m looking forward to finding out exactly what’s going on! :-)

Your turn!

First Lord's FuryHere’s mine:

Then the Queen went still again. ~ page 78 in First Lord’s Fury by Jim Butcher

I’m starting this book after I write up this post, and I cannot wait. This is the final book in Butcher’s Codex Alera series, and I’ve been looking forward to reading this for a few weeks now! I had to get this posted before I got started, because I don’t know when I’ll come up for air! ;-)

About this line, it could be ominous, but I don’t think it is in this case. Why don’t I think so? Well, this is the Vord queen, and what little else I skimmed off the page leads me to believe that it’s not. I could be wrong, though – wouldn’t mind being wrong! Hopefully I’ll find out soon! ;-)

Let’s see what you’re reading!

Random Reads: Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Random

This is a fun meme created by Sarah at I’m Loving Books, and I can’t wait to get started! The short explanation is that you randomly choose something from your TBR list and read it at some point during the course of the month. For the full information, check out Sarah’s first post about it HERE.

In March, I actually read my RR pick, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. April, back to the old pattern of choosing and not reading. Maybe this month I’ll do better – at least I’ll try to! ;-) Here’s hoping, anyway!

Like Sarah, I’m using Goodreads and Random.org to choose mine. I just go into my TBR list to see how many books are on there (513 at the moment), and enter that into the box:

Random Reads In case the graphic doesn’t show, I got 335. And – yet again – I had to do lots of scrolling. LOL (Why can’t I get a smaller number?) I came up with …

I added Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why to my TBR list last June after hearing a lot about it – most of which was positive (insofar as it being a good book – I know it’s a not-so-positive subject). Fortunately, I already own it, so no acquiring it is necessary. Now I just have to find it …

Wish me luck! (I mean on getting it read, not the finding it – but perhaps I need luck for both?)

Kill Me SoftlyHere’s mine:

They sat at an outdoor table at Gingerbread House, the cafe where she’d thrown the knife at him. ~ page 90 in Kill Me Softly by Sarah Cross

I would say this is definitely an attention-grabber. This is from a fun story based on fairy tales. It reminds me of ABC’s new show, Once Upon a Time, in that it incorporates pretty much all fairy tales. The cool thing is that this is a completely new take on them – and while it reminds me of the show it’s not really all that similar, plot-wise, anyway. It’s unique, and I’m really enjoying it.

Your turn!

What She Left BehindHere’s mine:

When I’m at school, it’s different. I hang out with Zach, sneak Ritz Bits crackers during class, and read horror novels in history. I like horror because it puts things in perspective. ~ What She Left Behind by Tracy Bilen

These are sentences 3 through 5 in the book. I haven’t quite started it, but plan to today. And I gotta say. I wonder about how horror puts things in perspective. What kinds of things? Perhaps it makes her feel better about her own life? I’m looking forward to finding out.

So, let’s see your sentences! :-)

Third Sentence Thursday: Princeps’ Fury

My apologies for being a tad late with this. The husband is out of town this week, which makes for craziness at home.

Princeps' FuryHere’s Mine:

“Suddenly,” Max said, ” I feel very small. And as though I have been somewhat arrogant.”

“Um,” Crassus said. He swallowed and cleared his throat. “Yes.” ~ page 135 in Princeps’ Fury by Jim Butcher

The third line actually is “Um,” Crassus said. I figured a bit more would be better. And I couldn’t end on that, either. I had to show the whole exchange! :-) I love Butcher’s writing. Love it. I just finished this book last night. Fabulous.

Again, I’m sorry for being late today. Life gets in the way sometimes! ;-)

Cover Love: March Picks

So, I’m a bit late. Life’s been crazy. Spring break, and now soccer has begun. Anyway, I enjoy going back and looking at the previous month’s covers!

Cover Love

From the host blog, I’m Loving Books:

Welcome to this month’s edition of Cover ♥ Love! Or as I like to say, Cover ♥ LoOoOove. On the first of every month, we’re showing the love by talking about our favorite book covers from books we’ve read the previous month. Are you loving up some covers this month? Well then join our monthly meme!

The rules can be found on the latest post HERE.

Now, I gotta tell you, March had great books. Not a lot of covers I’d say I love, though. Like, yes. Love, not quite that much. So, here are what I consider the best of those – in no particular order.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

TorrentTitle: Torrent
Author: Lisa Tawn Bergren
Series: River of Time #3

About the Book: Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini are just two normal American teenagers. Normal except for the fact that they time travel to fourteenth-century Italy, where they’ve lived in castles they’ve seen as crumbling ruins, become swept up in historic battles, and fallen in love with handsome knights willing to do anything to keep them alive.

They’ve returned to the present to save their father, just short of his tragic death, and now all four return to the place that holds the girls’ hearts, medieval Italy. But remaining there means facing great risk as the battle for territory wages on and the coming Black Plague looms. Can they convince their parents to stay and leave behind everything they’ve worked so hard to accomplish? And will the girls sacrifice their futures in an uncertain past? Or in facing death head-on, will they discover life as it was always meant to be lived?

Why I Love the Cover: Well, first and foremost because it continues the visual themes of the series. Second, the colors. I love the sunset (or sunrise, not sure which) over the river juxtaposed to the blackness around everything. Gorgeous. The dude, I’m guessing he’s supposed to be Marcello, isn’t hard to look at, either. Not quite my type, but I won’t complain! ;-)

My Thoughts on the Book: LOVED it. While Waterfall and Cascade fell a bit short of my expectations, Torrent took ‘em and ran. I couldn’t put it down, and I wasn’t ready for it to end! (And, no, it wasn’t the fault of the book. I just wanted MORE!) As a result, I grabbed Bourne (#3.1) for my Kindle almost immediately.

My Review

PandemoniumTitle: Pandemonium
Author: Lauren Oliver
Series: Delirium #2

About the Book: I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare,
pushing aside thoughts of Alex,
pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school,
push,
push,
push,
like Raven taught me to do.
The old life is dead.
But the old Lena is dead too.
I buried her.
I left her beyond a fence,
behind a wall of smoke and flame.

Why I Love the Cover: Again, it continues the visual themes of the first book. While I don’t like it quite as much as Delirium, I still find it visually striking. I think it definitely would’ve caught my eye if I was browsing a book store.

My Thoughts on the Book: I thought it was a fantastic followup to Delirium, and cannot wait for the series to continue. It’s riveting, and I found myself wanting to read constantly until I was finished. And the ending – WOW! I kinda maybe saw it coming, but it still was like a bomb. Awesome, awesome.
