Summary: Mom touched my underdress—a gown made six hundred years before—and her eyes widened as she rubbed the raw silk between thumb and forefinger. She turned and touched Lia’s gown. “Where did you get these clothes?”
Gabi knows she’s left her heart in the fourteenth century and she persuades Lia to help her to return, even though they know doing so will risk their very lives. When they arrive, weeks have passed and all of Siena longs to celebrate the heroines who turned the tide in the battle against Florence—while the Florentines will go to great lengths to see them dead.
But Marcello patiently awaits, and Gabi must decide if she’s willing to leave her family behind for good in order to give her heart to him forever.
My Thoughts: I liked this slightly better than I did Waterfall. Gabi and Lia seem to have grown a lot from where they started to where they are by the time this one ends – Gabi especially. Her voice still at times makes me roll my eyes, but then I suppose that’s a teenager for you, right?
That aside, it was so cool to watch her awaken to God. She becomes more aware, more willing to believe, more open to Him. It’s a gradual change, and quite natural.
I found I did like Marcello more this time around, but still find Luca more appealing. Greco – what to say without spoiling. Let’s just say I saw that coming. Not a mile away, just a bit before Gabi did. I think she was so wrapped up in her own situation that she couldn’t think clearly to understand what he was trying to tell her.
I thought Cascade was a bit more suspenseful. A bit more surprising. A bit more engaging than Waterfall was. I can’t wait to see how things play out in Torrent.
