Hosted by Bookish Ardour, the Free Reads challenge is one I can’t pass up. This is a challenge to help get us reading books we’ve received for free – via giveaways, as gifts, ARCs/books for the purpose of review, etc. I have tons of these sitting around – many of which I’ve been really wanting to read but haven’t taken the time for them. Hopefully this challenge will help me MAKE time! Plus, reviews are optional, which I greatly appreciate. While I usually try to review what I read, there are times I just don’t feel like writing a review. So, I generally try to take the opportunity to NOT review something when it’s just being read for fun.
Rules:
- The Main Rule: Read books you’ve received without purchasing, gifts, ARCs, prizes (not library books), that you haven’t read yet.
- Running Dates: 1st of January – 31st of December 2012
- When Can I Sign Up: All the way up to the last two weeks of December!
- Crossover Genres: Anything! As long as they were free when you got them, it doesn’t matter..
- Mr Linky: To use the Mr Linky you’ll need to click on the graphic then enter your link. These will be updated and posted into this page every couple of weeks or so.
- Further Details: Crossover challenges are fine, you can change levels at any time, this is eBook, short story, and graphic novel friendly, and you don’t need a blog to join in (read further for details).
There is a lot more information about rules, reviews, etc. Click on the button at the top of this post to get to the post with all of the details.
Levels:
- For Me? – Choose 5 books to read
- On The Cheap – Choose 15 books to read
- Bargain – Choose 30 books to read
- Presents – Choose 50 books to read
- So Free – Choose 75 books to read
- Gift Addict – Choose between 76-135 books to read
- Speechless – Choose between 136-200 books to read
Unfortunately, I’m going to have to aim LOW. I barely had any chances to read books that didn’t have specific review dates scheduled this year, and next year might not be much better. So, I’m gonna shoot for For Me?. If I make it, I just might bump it up to the next level. (I’m kinda hoping I’ll be able to!) Here’s a preliminary list of books I really hope I get read for this:
- I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder ~ Received as a RAK gift
- The Iron King by Julie Kagawa ~ won in a giveaway
- Divergent by Veronica Roth ~ won in a giveaway
- Never Have I Ever (second book in The Lying Game series) ~ won in a giveaway
- Spin the Plate by Donna Anastasi ~ sent by the author a long, long time ago
Of course, this might not be the books I end up reading for this challenge, but that’s what I’d read if I started today and read all five in a row (not necessarily in that order). Wow, what a run-on …
If I get these (or 5 others) done, I’ll add to the list and shoot for 15. Wish me luck!

Update 2/5
Well, I have already somehow managed to make it past 5 books for this challenge. So, I guess I’ll up the ante. So, now my goal is 15 – On the Cheap.
Once again, if I make it that high early enough, I’ll adjust my goal accordingly!

Update 3/10
Amazingly, I have reached 15 already!
So, I guess we’ll be bumping it up to Bargain – 30 books!
