Hosted by Bookish Ardour, the Off the Shelf challenge is one I can’t pass up. The main goal is to get books that are already on your shelves (or already on your e-reader) READ. So, all books you OWN that were acquired prior to January 1, 2012 qualify. I have so, so many books sitting around hoping I’ll have time for them. Hopefully this challenge will help me MAKE time!
Plus, reviews are optional, which I greatly appreciate. While I usually try to review what I read, there are times I just don’t feel like writing a review. So, I generally try to take the opportunity to NOT review something when it’s just being read for fun.
Rules:
- The Main Rule: Do not include books acquired during 2012, it defeats the purpose, read those books from before 2012 started!
- Running Dates: 1st of January – 31st of December 2012
- When Can I Sign Up: All the way up to the last two weeks of December!
- Crossover Genres: Anything! The name of the game is to turn those unread books into read ones.
- Further Details: Crossover challenges are fine, you can change levels at any time, this is eBook, short story, and graphic novel friendly, and you don’t need a blog to join in.
There is a lot more information about rules, reviews, etc. Click on the button at the top of this post to get to the post with all of the details.
Levels:
- Tempted– Choose 5 books to read
- Trying – Choose 15 books to read
- Making A Dint – Choose 30 books to read
- On A Roll – Choose 50 books to read
- Flying Off – Choose 75 books to read
- Hoarder – Choose between 76-135 books to read
- Buried – Choose between 136-200 books to read
Unfortunately, I’m going to have to aim LOW. I barely had any chances to read books off my shelves this year, and next year might not be much better. So, I’m gonna shoot for Tempted. If I make it, I just might bump it up to the next level. (I’m kinda hoping I’ll be able to!) Here’s a preliminary list of books I really hope I get read for this:
- Twilight
- New Moon
- Eclipse
- Breaking Dawn
- The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner
How nice that all of the Twilight books work for this! LOL If I get these done, I’ll add to the list and shoot for 15. Wish me luck!

Update 2/13
Miracle of miracles! I have reached 5 books! And it’s only February. I guess that means I should reach a little higher. So, now I’ll shoot for Trying (15). Hopefully I’ll find the next 10 just as easy to get through!

Thanks!
Sounds fun, and doable!
I’m doing a Vintage Science Fiction thing in January, and have recently purchased a bucket of books for it (way more than I can possibly read in a month!), so I guess those count.
I’ve been meaning to read more stuff of my shelves lately, buy a little less, hit up the library a little less. by less, I mean going to the library not every single weekend.

I hear ya on less library time! LOL I can’t leave without at least half a dozen books – I get ‘em for myself and the kids.

I did this one this year and I think I will again for next year. Not sure what books I will read though. I think I will go for ‘trying’ as that matches up with my other goals.

I’m hoping I can make it to trying, but just tempted will keep me happy! LOL
Yay for finally getting the Twilight books read! I would squeeze Bree Tanner in right after Eclipse and before Breaking Dawn since it tells the events of Eclipse from the vampire’s view.
Oh, and I finished the Hex Hall book I mentioned last week. Eh, didn’t turn out as good as I hoped.
Bummer on Hex Hall!
Was that the first in the series? It’s one series I do want to read, but perhaps won’t put great importance on it.
Thanks for the info on Bree. Now that you say that, I realize I knew that! LOL I generally read in order of publication, but I just might make the exception this time!
Thanks!
I’m in for 2012
