Review: Always a Witch

Always a Witch (Witch, #2)Always a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough

Summary: Since the gripping conclusion of Once A Witch, Tamsin Greene has been haunted by her grandmother’s prophecy that she will soon be forced to make a crucial decision—one so terrible that it could harm her family forever. When she discovers that her enemy, Alistair Knight, went back in time to Victorian-era New York in order to destroy her family, Tamsin is forced to follow him into the past. Stranded all alone in the nineteenth century, Tamsin soon finds herself disguised as a lady’s maid in the terrifying mansion of the evil Knight family, avoiding the watchful eye of the vicious matron, La Spider, and fending off the advances of Liam Knight. As time runs out, both families square off in a thrilling display of magic. And to her horror, Tamsin finally understands the nature of her fateful choice.

My Thoughts: Always a Witch is a brilliant conclusion to Tamsin Greene’s story, which began in Once A Witch. Like Once, Always grabbed my attention from the start, and kept it throughout. If I could have, I would have read it all in one sitting. (Darn responsibilities! ;-) ) The action is fast-paced, and it really is a quick read.

Tamsin is great. Again. And the choice she has to make – wow. Amazing that she could. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ending. I closed the book with a smile on my face.

Back to the characters … La Spider. I kinda wondered about that “name.” I got the idea that it was what the Greenes called Lady Knight, but I don’t remember it being explained. Anyway, while she’s scary, she’s not nearly as frightening as Liam. Wow. While it’s not outright stated, I get the idea that he’s the brains behind the Knight family’s plot to gain power and longevity – and to destroy the Greenes.

Gabriel was less prominent in this book – but he’s still important. I did kinda wish there’d been a bit more of him, though.

There are other characters I’d love to go on and on about, but I think I’ll stop. I really don’t want to spoil this book for anyone, and I’m afraid that too much discussion of the characters could lead to revealing too much.

In all, Always a Witch is a fabulous conclusion to the enchanting tale begun in Once A Witch. I would highly recommend this series to fellow bookworms.
