Review: Far From You

Far from YouFar from You by Lisa Schroeder

Summary: Lost and alone…Down the rabbit hole.

Alice thought she knew
what solitude was:
Her mother—gone.
Her father—remarried with a newborn
daughter.

Now…
Trapped
in the icy embrace
of a deadly snowstorm,
Alice faces the true meaning of loneliness.

But hope
may not be as far away
as she thinks….

My Thoughts: OK. It’s official. Lisa Schroeder is now one of my absolute favorite authors. Her ability to pack so much emotion and information into a novel-in-verse is absolutely AMAZING. This is the third book of hers that I’ve read, and it is fabulous. Absolutely fabulous. Far From You had me feeling for poor Alice, the child from the first marriage, which ended when her mother died. She feels like she was left behind as her father moved on with his life. I can’t remember how much time has passed since her mother’s death – and it’s possible the book doesn’t say – but it was enough time for him to be remarried and having a new child. I felt badly for Alice. As if the teen years aren’t hard enough.

Once they’re trapped in the snowstorm. Wow. It’s raw and amazing. In several spots I was in tears – not bawling, just tears. So touching. And Alice learns so much, and her character transformation in those few days she’s stuck – amazing. I found myself really pulling for her, more than I normally would. Does she make it? I’m not telling! ;-)

Lisa Schroeder is an amazing author with a gift for verse. Her novels always get straight to the heart of the issues. I hope she never stops writing, as I will always be eager to see what she’s coming up with next!
