Review: Between Here and Forever

Between Here and ForeverBetween Here and Forever by Elizabeth Scott

Summary: Abby accepted that she can’t measure up to her beautiful, magnetic sister Tess a long time ago, and knows exactly what she is: Second best. Invisible.

Until the accident.

Now Tess is in a coma, and Abby’s life is on hold. It may have been hard living with Tess, but it’s nothing compared to living without her.

She’s got a plan to bring Tess back though, involving the gorgeous and mysterious Eli, but then Abby learns something about Tess, something that was always there, but that she’d never seen.

Abby is about to find out that truth isn’t always what you think it is, and that life holds more than she ever thought it could.

My Thoughts: I have heard a lot of great things about Elizabeth Scott, so I was excited to finally get to read one of her books. Unfortunately, Between Here and Forever isn’t her best work. At least, I hope not. Don’t get me wrong, Scott is an excellent writer. The story just didn’t do it for me.

Abby is pathetic. I get it, she feels like she could never measure up to her sister, but she seems to wallow in it. She decides for everyone else – especially Eli – that she’s not worthy of them. She’s not worthy of being loved. She isn’t good enough. She thinks she knows what everyone thinks about her. She always thinks she knows what Eli’s going to say. Frustrating to read. I wanted to tell her to shush so Eli could actually talk!

The big secret was something I was able to figure out pretty early on. Just the right amount of tiny hints and experienced reader can pick up on. I suspect that younger readers might not figure it out so easily. It’s not blaringly obvious. It’s just that there are enough smaller hints that I was able to see it pretty quick.

Eli being flawed is kinda nice, because I think that if he wasn’t flawed Abby wouldn’t believe that he really gets her. Although, in some way, I would’ve preferred he wasn’t quite so flawed, so that she could have someone almost as “perfect” as she thinks her sister deserves.

Over all, Between Here and Forever kept my interest and was a decent read, but I’m guessing Elizabeth Scott has better books out there. I look forward to reading the next one by her soon!

The author is very talented. Among my top 20. But I’ve heard that this one is disappointing so I think I’ll pass this one.

I read her next one, As I Wake, right after this one, and it was a LOT better. Excellent book!
