Summary (from Goodreads): In Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabelle, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.
My Thoughts: I will be honest and say through most of the book, I still wasn’t all that impressed with the series. Yeah, in Shiver I thought the hunt scene was AMAZING. But the rest of the book didn’t do it for me. Most of this book, I was thinking it was more of the same. What didn’t help is that I read the summary that was on the inside flap of the book. (It’s different from the one above.) Stupid! Stupid! (Usually I don’t read a summary right before reading a book because they tend to give things away, as was the case here.) That’s not the book’s fault, though. So, I will try not to punish it for that!
I just think I might have enjoyed the book a bit more if I hadn’t known for certain what was coming.
Anyway …
Again, I felt like it was just an OK book for quite awhile there. It was interesting, but not addicting. I was annoyed with Cole and Isabel, and ready to scream about Grace’s parents. I mean, she’s 100% right. Her parents were the worst absentee parents I’ve seen yet, and then suddenly they want to act parental? Sheesh!
And then, roughly the last half got a lot more interesting. A lot better. And the last quarter (or so) is simply A-MAZ-ING! Wow. I was close to tears in a few spots. It is HIGHLY emotional, and Stiefvater did a remarkable job of helping her readers feel those emotions right along with everyone. Wow, wow, wow! And, man, what an ending!
I must also say that while I really disliked Cole at first, by the end I found myself liking him a lot more. Especially after what happens with Victor (which had me almost crying). While I can’t say I get a full idea of where he’s coming from, and his complaints seem somewhat shallow, the amount of personal growth is amazing. He goes from a complete jerk to someone who just might be likable after all!
As always, Maggie’s writing style is excellent, and, just like Shiver, the cover is gorgeous. The two make an excellent pair. And, the ink on the inside MATCHES the main color on the cover. I LOVE THAT TOUCH! Love it!
And now to go read Forever. I can’t wait to get into it!

your reviews are so wonderful. I always feel like I am reading exactly what I am thinking only written better. Though I do really like this series. I relate allot to Grace and her parents.

Aww, thank you! I’m blushing!
I am not sure why it hasn’t resonated with me like I expected. Perhaps I’ve just seen too much hype, so the series didn’t have much of a chance? I dunno, but I’m really liking Forever!

Great review! I haven’t started this series yet, but I’ve heard good things. Sadly, one of my friends didn’t like this book, which put me off reading the first. I may still see for myself, though.
