Summary: Vi knows the Rule: Girls don’t walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn…and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi’s future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.
But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they’re set on convincing Vi to become one of them…starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can’t leave Zenn in the Thinkers’ hands, but she’s wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous–everything Zenn’s not. Vi can’t quite trust Jag and can’t quite resist him, but she also can’t give up on Zenn.
This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.
My Thoughts: This book kept me reading, despite being a bit confusing and lacking in description/information.I think a large part of the problem is the description. It doesn’t fit the first half (roughly) of the book. Things move too fast, especially Vi and Jag. And the world was hard to imagine because it wasn’t very well described for the reader. There also was some predictability in the story. I knew a couple of pretty big details before they were revealed.
The characters aren’t very well developed, either. We see events, their recollections, their lives. But we don’t really see much of their motivation. We don’t get to know them in a way that makes us care about them. Vi, for instance, has a lot of attitude. And while there is some minor reference to things that led to her issues, they are just touched upon. Same with Jag. We see some of his history, but nothing that really gives him much with which to feel.
Would I read it again? Not likely. Will I read the sequel? If the opportunity presents itself, but I won’t seek it out. Would I recommend it? Probably not. Although, some people really liked it a lot, so maybe you would like it.

interesting that you don’t like it. The synopsis sounds good.

oh but I feel like I have heard of this story before too. I don’t know maybe Matched is the book I am thinking of
Yes, I bet you are thinking of Matched, which I loved!
Thank you for sharing today. I have been hearing a lot of mixed opinions on this one. I like the synopsis, but I do want good character development in a novel; that is my pleasure with a story, being able to have the characters as imaginary friends. I also want to like the characters, nothing annoys me more than when I do not like a character (good guy or bad).
