Authors from A to Z: B

Authors from A to Z

B = Barnes, Blum, and Brown

It’s hard narrowing it down to three, but here we go!

Raised by WolvesJennifer Lynn Barnes is an author on whose work I took a bit of a chance last year. Her book, Raised by Wolves, was something I was somewhat reluctant to read. It was my first werewolf novel. It was one of those books I participated in a tour for, and ended up buying later. So good! There were times that the emotions described were so well written out that I found myself feeling them, too. (Click on the book title to read my review.)

Those Who Save UsJenna Blum’s novel Those Who Save Us is powerful. Very. It is the first World War II historical fiction I’ve read as an adult – at least that I remember. I read it back in 2008, and it still evokes strong emotion whenever I think about it. It made me see the War in a much different light. Gave me a perspective I hadn’t ever considered before. Haunted me for quite a while. And, still, when I think about it, I wonder what I’d have done in that position. Almost three years after having read it, it still makes me think. Wow. I really should seek out more of Blum’s books! (Again, click on the book title to read my review. This one will take you to Goodreads, as it was written before I started book blogging.)

Bitter EndJennifer Brown is by no means a fledgling author (neither is Jenna Blum, for that matter), but she’s new to me. I discovered her when I read Bitter End in May. It was a very hard book for me to process, and even harder for me to write about. But, it is very well written. It handles a sensitive subject – physically abusive teen relationships – very well. I feel weird saying that I “enjoyed” the book, given what it’s about. It’s another book that really made me think, and gave me a new perspective. And rather than going into it here, I’ll just refer you to my review (linked in the book title above).

So, there you have it. My post about B authors. Tune in tomorrow for the lovely letter C!

Oh, my… I have not read a single one book by those three authors! More books added to my TBR! (But I suppose that is kind-of the point!) :)

I remember Barnes and Brown’s reviews. They look like fabulous book. But I am really curious about Blum’s book. Definitely added to my TBR list!
