Summary: The decisions you make and the way you treat others have more impact than you may ever realize.
Speaker and New York Times best-selling author Andy Andrews shares a compelling and powerful story about a decision one man made over a hundred years ago, and the ripple effect it’s had on us individually, and nationwide, today. It’s a story that will inspire courage and wisdom in the decisions we make, as well as affect the way we treat others through our lifetime. Andrews speaks over 100 times a year, and The Butterfly Effect is his #1 most requested story.

My Thoughts: When I read the description of this book, I thought it sounded really neat. What an intriguing concept. I had heard of the Butterfly Effect, so far as it relates to the weather, but hadn’t actually considered how it can be applied to so many other things. To life in general. To every single action I take, to every single decision I make, to every single word I say. While a short, quick read, this book is very thought-provoking. It implores its readers to live a life of purpose, recognize that the smallest action can have a lasting impact on the world. It’s an amazing thing to consider, although I do find myself skeptical. Not that I don’t believe this is true, but I wonder if it’s true for everyone. But, I think it’s one of those things that aren’t discovered until we look back in retrospect: This person did this. What an amazing accomplishment. But, if this person hadn’t been influenced by this other person in his youth, it’s quite possible this wouldn’t have come to pass. And that influencer had her own person who – by some small everyday act – made a lasting impact on her life that affected the first person’s life. And so on and so forth. So, I guess the point is, live like every moment matters. Even the mundane, boring details could turn out to shape the future in an amazing way. You might not live to know just how big the impact, but that’s OK. Life isn’t all about you as an individual, anyway. Live each day, each moment, with purpose.
Coupled with the inspiring text is gorgeous graphics. This is an absolutely beautiful book. It would make a great gift for a graduate or someone else at a turning point in their life. Who knows, maybe simply sharing this book with someone else will be your Butterfly Effect action.

I hated the movie, but your review makes me want to give the book a try. I might just have to do that.
