Review: Wayfarer

Wayfarer (Faery Rebels, #2) Wayfarer by R.J. Anderson

Summary (from Goodreads): The faeries of the Oak are dying, and it’s up to a lone faery named Linden to find a way to restore their magic. Linden travels bravely into dangerous new territory, where she enlists the help of an unlikely friend—a human named Timothy. Soon they discover something much worse than the Oakenfolk’s loss of magic: a potent evil that threatens the fate of all faeries. In a fevered, desperate chase across the country, Timothy and Linden risk their lives to seek an ancient power before it’s too late to save everyone they love.

My Thoughts: Like the first in the Faery Rebels series, Wayfarer was a fantastic adventure. Fourteen years after the end of Spell Hunter, we begin with a 14-year-old Linden, and with the immediate declaration that Queen Amaryllis is dying. Linden is given half of the Queen’s magic, and told that she is her people’s last hope. Sent on a quest to find a way to restore her people’s magic, Linden befriends a human named Timothy and travels far from home in search of help. We meet many more faeries, not all of which are good, kind creatures.

I was delighted to be able to read this book immediately after having completed Spell Hunter, and even more delighted to see that Wayfarer tells us Linden’s story! And what an amazing story, which I sense is still not completely finished. (I wish I knew how many more books are planned, so I can eagerly wait! LOL)

I do have to say that one part of the book was somewhat predictable. Let’s just say I KNEW exactly who the Empress is. But enough happened from when I first suspected and when it was revealed that I decided I was wrong. Until it was revealed. Then there was the satisfying moment were I thought, “HA! I KNEW it!” Because I didn’t plow through the book with that certain in my mind, I don’t think it means the book was predictable. I think there are some hints throughout the book, but probably not enough to spoil anything. Again, I had an idea, but had dismissed my conclusion by the time the answer was given.

In short, this was a very good book. I definitely see myself reading it again, and hope there are more books coming soon in the Faery Rebels series!

My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wonderful review – a new title to me but sounds like one I would want to watch for.
