Review: Lucy Springer Gets Even

Lucy Springer Gets EvenLucy Springer Gets Even by Lisa Heidke

Summary: Lucy Springer thinks she’s got it tough. She’s living through renovation hell, her two kids seem more challenging than ever, and her once successful acting career has been reduced to the odd commercial.

Then Max, her husband, absconds to Bali with an unknown companion and things got from bad to disastrous.

But Lucy doesn’t give up easily. Juggling increasingly chaotic building dramas, bewildered children, her crazy best friend-slash-agent Gloria, her ever “helpful” mother and chasing after Max, Lucy Springer is determined to get her life onto an even keel – and more.

My Thoughts: What a fun read! I really enjoyed reading Lucy’s story. I loved her personality, her sarcasm, her realness. I HATED Max. What a jerk! And all the talk of Alana being “fragile” – whatever.

I thought the characters were all very real. From Lucy’s insecurity to the moms’ lunch dates at which they all gossip about who isn’t there. Gloria drove me nuts, though. Why is she Lucy’s best friend? She doesn’t respect Lucy at all. I don’t get it. And Dom – I wanna know what happens with that. I was very disappointed when there wasn’t a clear answer to that at the end. I felt like the book ended a few chapters too soon.

I liked Lucy’s unwillingness to stoop to the level of those who tried to slander her. I also loved that through it all Lucy came to realize (or “realise,” as it is in the book) what truly was important.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It’s the perfect summer read. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves Jennifer Weiner!

My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thanks so much for your comments on Lucy Springer Gets Even! She was a great character to write. It's interesting you say you were disappointed when her story ended…I've been tossing around ideas for a sequel. I don't think we've seen the end of Lucy yet!__I agree – Max is a jerk. Lucy's too good for him. Gloria is self-centred but she was also a fun character to write.__Thanks for reviewing Lucy Springer Gets Even…I really appreciate your thoughts.__Cheers,__Lisa

WOW great review on Lucy Springer get Even! Love that she's so spirited and real with a spicy dose of sarcasm.. Hmmm she sound like me! Except she probably isn't vertically challenged.. or was that broached in the plot?? Will have to put this one on my TBR list and am very curious as to what makes MAX such a jerk.

You know, I can't remember how tall/short she is. I do believe it's mentioned, but I could be wrong about that.
